Topping the clean energy news this week was:

• Tuesday was a busy day, as Governor Patrick announced 11.8 percent job growth in Massachusetts' clean energy sector over the last year at an event celebrating the release of MassCEC's 2013 Massachusetts Clean Energy Industry Report. It was the same day that the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy rated Boston as the most energy-efficient city in the country.

• New England Hydropower, based in Beverly, is teaming up with a Rhode Island developer to build a new type of hydropower project that would be the first of its kind in the United States. 

• The Boston Globe editorial board says the potential gains outweigh the costs of bringing Canadian hydroelectricity to the New England power grid.

• President Obama’s nomination of Ronald J. Binz as the head of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has generated more controversy than anticipated, primarily because the Commission is not considered a well known entity. 

• The Boston Globe interviewed CEOs and founders of Boston-based companies, asking them what suggestions they have to the next mayor of Boston on how to continue improving Boston’s innovation sector.
