Bentley Arena Earns LEED Platinum

MassCEC’s Director of Investments, Tibor Toth, attended an event on June 6, 2018 for the LEED Platinum Celebration and Plaque Dedication for the Bentley Arena, the first LEED-certified university ice arena in the US! 

The building’s design for Bentley Arena has broken new ground for energy efficiency in hockey arenas. The arena is 76,000 square feet with 1,400 solar panels on the roof which provide 40% of the energy used by the building. It has a high-efficiency light-emitting diode (LED) system with motion-detection control and even two all-electric Zambonis! The arena captures and uses all the heat generated by the ice chillers. Moreover, the building is expected to achieve a 48% reduction in plumbing fixture water use thanks to the installation of waterless urinals, dual-flush toilets, low-flow showers, and faucets. In recent months there has been an increase in demand by Massachusetts students for local colleges and universities to commit to 100 percent renewable energy. Bentley is already taking a leadership role by building sustainable infrastructure like the Bentley Arena and committing to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
