Celebrating the Future of Massachusetts Innovation

A couple Fridays back, the MassCEC offices were buzzing with excitement - and not just in anticipation of the weekend.

Governor Deval Patrick joined the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center in celebrating each of their momentous internship programs and honoring the many companies and interns who have participated over the years.

The third floor of the Boston office was packed with employers and interns, past and present, eager to share their experiences and listen to remarks by Governor Patrick, Housing and Economic Development Secretary Gregory Bialecki, Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Maeve Vallely Bartlet, MassCEC CEO Alicia Barton, MLSC CEO Susan Windham-Bannisterm, MTC Director of the Innovation Institute Patrick Lavin.

A keen sense of optimism towards the Commonwealth’s future workforce and business development ran through the crowd as interns and employers were praised for their hard work and determination.

During the event, Governor Patrick also announced the winners of MassCEC’s new Learn & Earn program, which is giving $145,000 grants to schools in Brockton, Lawrence and Boston to prepare high school students for higher education and careers in clean energy and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

It was an energizing event to say the least and a strong reminder of how invaluable these programs truly are.
