Takei Takes on Tech in Boston
These days, technology is progressing at a pace like never before. People today are having a harder time than ever discerning science fiction from, you know, actual science.
George Takei can certainly relate – he’s been going to warp speed since 1966.
While we can’t bend space and time just yet, the city of Boston is playing host to companies developing technologies previously unimagined.
Takei recently brought his YouTube series, Takei’s Take, to the area to film a four-part piece on the tech scene in the Greater Boston area including a stop by Greentown Labs in Somerville, one of the country's largest cleantech incubators, and the Massachusetts Institute for Technology's Media Lab.
Takei also visited Artisans Asylum, a self-described, “non-profit community craft studio” as well as Bolt, a seed-stage fund that invests capital, personnel, equipment and expertise in hardware startups. The most technically impressive company featured was Rethink Robotics; a Fort Point based startup that has developed an easily re-programmable robot, “Baxter”.
These collaborative workspaces provide the resources and space for some of the most innovative companies to explore ideas and designs from the concept to the marketplace.
Takei's visit brings national attention to what we've know around these parts for some time - Massachusetts really is the Hub of Innovation.
