Warm Up, Save Money This Winter
Electricity prices are increasing dramatically this winter season, with residential rates jumping by 29 to 37 percent across most of the Commonwealth.
These soaring rates are directly hitting the wallets of families, particularly those who use traditional electric heating to warm their homes in the winter.
To help alleviate these costs, the Department of Energy Resources (DOER) has committed $1 million in rebates for residents who install high-efficiency air-source heat pumps, which use outdoor air temperatures to heat and cool homes and buildings.
While air-source heat pumps require electricity to operate, efficient models use a third of the electricity compared to traditional electric heating and can reduce electric heating bills by over 60 percent. These systems can be installed in nearly all homes that currently heat with traditional electric heating.
MassCEC is issuing these rebates on DOER's behalf through our Clean Heating and Cooling program, which is open to all residents of the Commonwealth who currently heat with traditional electric resistance heat. Rebates offered through the program range from $750 to a maximum of $3,750, based on system type and size, and may be combined with a rebate of up to $500 from the MassSave program.
Homeowners can find air-source heat pump installers, who will work with homeowners on applying for the rebate, by visiting the Air-Source Heat Pump Program page.
With temperatures outside getting colder every day, the timing is perfect for installing a technology that will keep homes, and wallets, comfortable this winter.
