Professional Connections Blossom at Spring Career Fair
On April 13, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s office was bustling with energy as students and job seekers gathered for our first ever Career Fair. Nearly 150 people walked through our doors, ranging from college students interested in internships to clean energy professionals searching for their next great career opportunity.
The clean energy sector in Massachusetts has grown tremendously over the past years. The industry employs nearly 99,000 workers – a 65 percent increase since 2010, according to the 2015 Massachusetts Clean Energy Center Industry Report. With the rapid development of the industry, more and more people have been joining the clean energy workforce, and skilled workers have been in increasingly high demand.
MassCEC hosted the Spring Career Fair to give students and job seekers the chance to meet with representatives from the clean energy industry in Massachusetts and learn about career opportunities available in the field. A total of 17 employers attended to recruit for open positions at their companies.
People from diverse backgrounds can find their niche in clean energy: employment opportunities are available to those with technical knowledge, business savvy, energy and environmental expertise and various other skills. Although clean energy workers have vastly different backgrounds, they all share a high level of enthusiasm for what they do.
Walking into the Career Fair, this enthusiasm was clear: employers accumulated piles of resumes from interested job seekers, attendees made valuable connections with industry professionals and the sound of engaging conversations didn’t weaken all evening.
With the abundance of passion in the room, forming professional relationships was almost effortless. Employers left the Spring Career Fair with promising candidates for open positions, while students and job seekers walked away with prospects for careers in which they can put their excitement about clean energy to good use.
As the clean energy industry continues growing and more employment opportunities arise, we’ll be looking forward to MassCEC’s next career fair – and thinking of ways to make it even bigger and better than the first!
