Solar Power Northeast Conference in Boston

Liam Monahan

On February 5 and 6,  Solar Power Northeast - the region’s largest solar and energy storage event - brought together different sectors of the solar industry at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel to discuss new developments and share ideas. The conference’s sessions followed five main themes: business, technology, and market insight; policy and regulation; ESI – energy storage; advanced topics in solar; and opportunities for collaboration. MassCEC was one of the conference’s industry partners and tabled alongside the Department of Energy Resources at the expo. Manufacturers, consultants, distributors, and other companies in the industry showcased their products and services in the exhibit hall.

Abigail Ross Hopper, President & CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association, moderated the keynote session, “From Tariffs to Tax Reform: Strategies for Solar Growth in America.” At this discussion, panelists analyzed current trends in the solar industry highlighting the effects of recently-passed tax legislation and new solar tariffs.

MassCEC staff had the opportunity to attend several sessions to learn how MassCEC can continue to support the current issues facing the solar industry in Massachusetts. Popular topics of discussion included the next solar incentive program - SMART - and energy storage.

At the MassCEC booth, Solar Team staff answered questions and introduced attendees to  our distinguished programs, like the new Commercial Solar Hub, which supports the growth of the onsite commercial solar market. Informational resources and tools are provided online to help commercial customers consider solar, including a Commercial Solar Advisor.
