About the Position
The Assistant Director coordinates with partners and stakeholders to develop robust training-to-jobs pipelines for a range of clean energy sectors, including solar, storage, energy efficiency, building electrification, and electric vehicles. Leveraging a holistic approach to workforce development, the Assistant Director works to promote clean energy careers and remove barriers to entry to the clean energy workforce, with a particular emphasis on diversity and historically underserved populations. They collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to identify training and other workforce gaps and produce solutions that remove barriers to the deployment of clean energy. They support development of strategic programs to foster productive communications and sharing of best practices and resources between training providers, employers, energy justice organizations, policy makers and program designers, and other workforce development stakeholders.

Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to development of educational resources that align with best practices and industry standards, including deployment in online environments
  • Create collateral to support outreach to promote clean energy careers, workforce best practices, and information about IREC projects and programs 
  • Leverage workforce experience to contribute to IREC’s strategy and direction, including tactics to increase the size, skill level, and diversity of the clean energy workforce
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of technical assistance for training providers, employers, community organizations, policy makers, program designers, and other partners in the area of workforce strategy and training development
  • Support implementation of IREC training and other workforce projects, including project tracking, partner coordination, research and data analysis, and administrative support
Qualifications: 

Essential Knowledge/Skills/Experience/Qualities:
Required 

  • At least five years of experience supporting workforce development programs in a higher education, non-profit, trade association, or organized labor setting
  • BA/BS degree
  • Experience supporting complex, long-term projects, including coordinating communications between staff and subcontractors, assisting with on-time attainment of project milestones, and remote meeting and webinar support 
  • Experience developing instructional materials or administering a training program 
  • Track record of successfully promoting workforce projects and programs by developing communications messaging and collateral tailored to target audiences
  • Experience in clean energy, energy, or related trades/professions
  • Comfortable working with new technologies and software
  • Ability to work independently or with a team to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a geographically distributed virtual team environment
  • Superior writing, public speaking, and interpersonal skills

Preferred

  • Master's degree
  • Track record of developing job or training recruitment programs focused on diverse or historically disadvantaged populations
  • Working knowledge of elearning authoring tools (Articulate, Captivate, and/or similar tools)
