Headquartered outside Boston in Southborough, MA, Upstart Power is a growth-stage company, founded in 2018 by a team of serial entrepreneurs and fuel cell experts. The Upstart Power team is developing and commercializing solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technologies and products and changing the landscape of backup power and renewables-based generation for residential, small industrial, and remote power applications.
Reporting into the Test Engineering Manager, the Test Engineer will work as part of a cross functional team to develop low-cost, high-reliability SOFC power systems. The Firmware Engineer will take direction from a Technical Team leader, and support the design, test and validation efforts to product specifications.
SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Turn Test requirements into state of the art test stands, fixtures and executable plans to support design verification, long term reliability testing and stress testing of our fuel cell products
· Develop Design Verification test procedures and processes to support design, release and ramp
· As part of a cross functional team, spearhead the drive to have industry leading standards for DFT (Design for Test) as well as DFM (Design for Manufacturing). Drive to solutions for any issues identified.
· Analyze test data to identify performance to specification, expectations. Also Monitor units under test for performance during test runs to identify any early issues. Use statistical tools to identify population behaviours and test results.
· Debug and determine root cause for any test & system failures, and feed back to the product team for resolution.
· Prime support for regulatory and compliance pre-testing of new product
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent with 3+ years of experience
· Experience with electromechanical sensors & actuators
· Experience with AC components and test equipment
· Python programming skills a plus
· Familiarity with standard lab equipment (AC, Electronics testing)
· Fluency with Microsoft Office products
· Understanding of Design of Experiments a plus
· Exposure to compliance and regulatory testing / methods a plus
· Ability and love for hands-on approach
· Ability to work both independently, and part of a fast moving team
· Teamwork, integrity, positive attitude, and professionalism
