Government/ Non-Profit

MassCEC is committed to helping local governments and non-profits take control of their energy futures, protecting the environment and stabilizing energy costs.

Among MassCEC’s offerings for government and non-profit agencies are programs that help municipalities and regional planning authorities assess their clean energy resources, as well as offering grants for site assessments, feasibility studies and construction of clean energy projects, including wind turbines, anaerobic digesters and hydroelectric systems.

Community Microgrid (Government/Non-Profit) - Who's Eligible?

Feasibility assessment grants will be provided through a competitive solicitation open to municipalities and their public works departments, electric distribution companies, municipal light plants, emergency services departments, owners of critical infrastructure such as hospitals and financial institutions, self-organized groups of commercial building owners, developers or any entity that either owns property within a proposed microgrid or can demonstrate that they represent stakeholders with the capability of developing a multi-user microgrid.

As demonstrated by the recent Paris Climate Conference, global energy systems face a massive challenge in shifting away from unsustainable carbon-emitting fuels to sustainable sources, while serving the energy and development needs of a planet whose population will reach ten billion before the end of the century. This challenge calls for contributions from disciplines that span the full range of BU’s capabilities in research and policy analysis. At this event, faculty members engaged in a wide range of research related to sustainable energy systems and policies will discuss their current and future work.

The Northeast is facing a capacity crunch: coal and nuclear generating plants are being retired, leaving the region to find new, large-scale generation that also meets mounting environmental policy requirements for clean energy with regard to EPA's Clean Power Plan and the transformation of RGGI, Inc.  The region doesn't have too much renewable potential, and siting new gas-fired generation as well as supporting transmission infrastructure has become increasingly difficult. Moreover, this part of the U.S. and Canada is dealing with some of the highest retail electricity rates on the continent.

This conference will focus on analyzing capacity gaps in the short and long-term, evaluating what an optimal future fuel source mix will look like for the region to ensure reliability and comply with environmental standards. The program will mostly focus on whether increased US-Canadian power trade is a logical solution.  Several new cross-border projects have been proposed — mostly to bring large-scale hydropower into New England from Canada — that bring up big policy questions and tensions between competitive energy markets, regulators, and the public with regard to concerns over costs, impacts to the local economy, and siting.  The conference will explore these tensions while evaluating the potential of hydropower projects bid into the New England Clean Energy RFP — a multi-state request for new clean energy and transmission projects — in addition to projects that would develop offshore wind resources and increase US/Canadian access to natural gas.

Featuring expert discussions of industry practitioners and specialists, this second annual Cross-Border Summit will serve as a collaborative forum for the power industry to work together and plan for New England and the entire Northeast's power future.

The SEIA Solar Business Code and Complaint Resolution Process

Webinar

As part of SEIA’s consumer protection efforts, SEIA promulgated the SEIA Solar Business Code (“Code”) to further transparency and understanding in solar power transactions, while maintaining high levels of competitiveness.  The Code covers many aspects of the standard solar transaction, including advertising, sales and marketing, and contracting. SEIA also adopted a Complaint Resolution Process to resolve complaints arising from the Code. Participants will hear an overview of the Code’s rules and the Complaint Resolution Process, and have a chance to ask questions about both.

In this webinar, we'll start by providing a brief overview of SEIA’s consumer protection efforts. Building on this groundwork, we’ll dive into the SEIA Solar Business Code, and discuss the five sections: Guide Principles; Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices; Advertising; Sales and Marketing Interactions; and Contracts. We will then go over how the Complaint Resolution Process works from submitting a complaint to appealing a decision. Participants will have a chance to ask questions about the Code’s requirements and the Complaint Resolution Process.

The Tufts Energy Conference is an annual event that brings together professionals, students, and experts from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors to discuss critical global energy issues. The conference is organized entirely by students from a broad range of backgrounds including engineering, international affairs, urban planning, and economics. From a two-panel event in 2006, TEC has grown into one of the largest entirely student-run energy conferences in the region, attracting over 300 attendees each year.

This year, TEC will explore The Geopolitics of Energy, with discussion centering on how energy developments at the global, regional, and national levels are shaping international politics and security. The conference seeks to answer the question: How is the relationship between energy markets and international politics likely to evolve in a highly uncertain geopolitical landscape?
