MassCEC is committed to helping local governments and non-profits take control of their energy futures, protecting the environment and stabilizing energy costs.

Among MassCEC’s offerings for government and non-profit agencies are programs that help municipalities and regional planning authorities assess their clean energy resources, as well as offering grants for site assessments, feasibility studies and construction of clean energy projects, including wind turbines, anaerobic digesters and hydroelectric systems.

Adapting legal and governance systems to address dramatic changes in climate trends pose significant challenges. The focus of this Climate Adaptation Forum is on the development of new rules, regulations, institutions, and forms of governance needed to respond to our changing climate.

This Forum will:

  • Provide examples of developing the political will to enact change;
  • Discuss impediments from existing regulatory programs designed to protect the existing conditions;
  • Present the findings of the Governance and Climate Adaptation Report prepared by UMass Boston Sustainable Solutions Lab on governance;
  • And report on Resilient Rhody, the 2018 the Statewide Climate Resilience Action Strategy developed for the State of Rhode Island

Join YPE and volunteer with the Esplanade Association on Boston’s Charles River Esplanade on Saturday, October 6th from 9am to 12pm. Specific tasks of the volunteer event will be determined in September, but could include painting benches, greening, picking up the pathways, raking leaves, among other activities to ensure that we keep the Esplanade beautiful.

In an effort to further YPE’s impact on our community, please consider making a donation to the Esplanade Association’s volunteer program here.The program is run solely on donations from volunteer groups and individual volunteers. Donations go towards replacing and restoring broken tools, buying new volunteer materials such as paint, tarps, trash picks, and garden shears, and helping our staff continue to run the Volunteer Program. Please be sure to note in the donation comment section that your donation is for the Volunteer Program.

Fisheries Working Group on Offshore Wind Energy

Since 2011, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center have convened the Massachusetts Fisheries Working Group (FWG) on Offshore Wind Energy to discuss fisheries issues. While the working group is voluntary and informal, it provides a critically important forum for maintaining a dialogue with key stakeholders, getting fishing industry feedback and guidance, and identifying issues and concerns for the federal agencies leading the offshore wind leasing and permitting effort.

What happens to solar photovoltaic (PV) panels when they come to the end of their useful lifetime? As the solar PV industry evolves and deployment levels grow, policymakers are beginning to consider how to deal with future PV panel waste. 

This webinar will provide an overview of what we can expect for future volumes of PV waste in the U.S., what technology solutions there are to turn waste modules into valuable recovered materials (and prevent toxic ones from harming our environment), and the status of the PV recycling industry and policy support structures in the US. National Environmental Justice Advisory Council Public Meeting

The National Environmental Justice Advisory Council (NEJAC) is a federal advisory committee to the EPA. The Council provides advice and recommendations about broad, cross-cutting issues related to environmental justice, from all stakeholders involved in the environmental justice dialogue. In addition, the NEJAC provides a valuable forum for discussions about integrating environmental justice with other EPA priorities and initiatives. 

The meeting discussion will focus on several topics including, but not limited to, environmental justice concerns of communities in Boston, MA and surrounding areas; discussion and deliberation of the final report from the NEJAC Environmental Justice and Water Infrastructure Finance and Capacity Work Group; and the proactive efforts of EPA Region 1 to advance environmental justice.
