Data Analytics and Energy Efficiency

Event Time:
Wednesday, October 03, 2018 - 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Event Location:
Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center
550 Winter Street
Waltham , MA 02451

In commercial buildings, it is estimated that annual building energy use can be cut by an average of 29%, or ~4-5% of overall national energy consumption through corrections to existing buildings controls infrastructure and resulting improvements to operating efficiency. Building data analytics has become a more relevant need to the building design community and energy efficiency building goals.

Building data analytics systems and their providers offer the potential for building owners and operators to perform continuous monitoring, provide fault detection and diagnostics (FDD), and deliver information on the operation of the building assets. These systems which incorporate the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud-based computing can identify energy savings projects and inform on measured energy savings.

This meeting will be a great opportunity to gather building energy experts to present and discuss the impact of deeper building analytics and FDD systems on our profession and on our customers.  We look forward to seeing you at this event.

In the first of two forums exploring resiliency and adaptation, the Boston Society of Architects/AIA (BSA) and the Boston Green Ribbon Commission (GRC) are partnering to explore the importance of designing for climate resilience at a districtwide scale. The series will begin with a presentation by Carly Foster of Arcadis, planner for Climate Ready South Boston. The forum also provides an opportunity to hear from Senior Waterfront Planner, Chris Busch, about the Boston Planning Development Agency’s (BPDA) efforts to implement flood zoning overlay districts and to create resiliency design guidelines for new and existing residential buildings.

Presenters from the architecture profession will use case studies to talk about best practices for site specific interventions that work well with neighborhood-wide plans. The panel will focus on district-wide approaches to climate adaptation that are relevant throughout the Greater Boston area where sea level rise and increased flooding due to climate change are forcing us to think, design and plan better.

Imagine a safe, sustainable way to dramatically reduce total annual U.S. carbon emissions from the atmosphere – without any geo-engineering or new technology breakthroughs. According to the USDA, this is not a fantasy. Using regenerative agriculture techniques, we could sustainably offset much of the country’s carbon footprint— while at the same time making soils healthier, increasing yields, and boosting resilience to climate change. Legislation to incentivize these practices is now pending at both the state and federal level.

Join E2 New England and experts to discuss this innovative approach to reducing carbon emissions while strengthening the farm economy here and around the world.

Molecular Approaches to Solar Energy Conversion

Add to Calendar
Event Location:

Molecular approaches to solar energy conversion with Professor Michael R. Wasielewski, Northwestern University. This presentation will describe several projects that look to understand how to capture solar photons to generate charges and then use those charges to carry out energy-demanding reactions. This research includes new approaches to increasing light harvesting efficiency in molecular solids using singlet exciton fission to generate two triplet excitons, which in turn will produce two electron-hole pairs; self-assembled nanostructures that independently transport electrons and holes over long distances; and new super-redox agents that use radical ion excited states to provide the high redox potentials needed to power catalysts that drive energy-demanding chemical reactions.
