Located in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, the new solar hot water system at Pine Street Inn’s permanent housing facility is operating! Thanks to a $35,000 grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, Pine Street Inn was able to install ten solar hot water collectors on a new 12-unit apartment building, which provides housing to 13 residents who were formerly homeless living in shelters. Renewable Energy Systems, LLC was the the lead for the project's installation. Pine Street Inn, a Boston-based non-profit, serves over 1,600 men and women each day, providing a comprehensive range of programs and services, with the ultimate mission of making permanent housing a real possibility for all. The new solar hot water system reduces greenhouse gas emissions and has a projected estimated savings of over 150,000 kBTU/year, equivalent to taking three cars off the road every year.
